The publication under review is the second of the two volumes devoted to interpreter training authored by Robin Setton and Andrew Dawrant. Drawing on fields and theories ranging from cognitive science to expertise research - as well as their own experiences as senior practicing interpreters and veteran interpreter trainers - the authors aim to 'stand on the shoulders of past generations of trainers to update and adapt the standard paradigm to the realities of interpreting in the twenty-first century' (p. xxiv). As a companion to volume one, Conference interpreting: a complete course, the present volume emphasizes the principles of course design and teaching pedagogy and mainly targets instructors, course designers and researchers of interpreting. The integration of in-depth theoretical exploration and hands-on practical guidance on exercises both in and outside the classroom is what makes this book unique.
