Intel Debuts Dual Core

We've been following the dual-core revolution ever since AMD and Intel announced plans for such processors in September of last year. With the recent launch of Intel's Pentium Extreme Edition 840 with Hyper-Threading, we're finally able to determine exactly what a dual-core processor can do for you in day-to-day computing. As the name implies, a dual-core CPU is a single chip with two processor cores on board rather than one. This increases the computing power of the chip in certain instances. And by running each core at a lower clock speed, makers can get that added performance while still being able to control the heat. Dual core also saves on cost and the space required for a true dual-processor setup.
