Worldwide, packaging is accepted as a strategic marketing tool, where product differentiation is critical. Industry statistics show that 80 percent of consumers' purchasing decisions are made inside the store and that 60 percent of those decisions are impulse buys. The diecut shape of the package is just as important as clever graphic design or quality printing. Statistics from the North American and European markets show that more than 35 percent of all corrugated, production is currently diecut. To determine the current status of finishing, with the focus directly on diemaking and diecut-ting, Paperboard Packaging recently surveyed a cross-section of North American corrugated and sheet plants.
