Indian Paper Industry Towards a Cleaner and Greener Future

Subhash Chand Jain, President of the Federation of Paper Traders Associations (FPTA) of India, said that while the investment plans for the new capacity of about Rs25,000 million by big paper mills are already known, more investment would be needed to meet the growing demand for paper and paper products in the country. He cautioned that failure to meet the demand would result in a vastly stepped up imports of paper and paper products. While total production of paper and paper products including newsprint in India is little over 8.5 million tonnes, the total consumption has been estimated at around 9.5 million tonnes. The gap in demand and supply is made good through imports.
