Original Juice Co., Melbourne, Australia, found itself with a challenge in achieving consistent placement of closures onto filled bottles. It wanted every closure on all of its different bottles to be applied fully, as well as straight and not skewed. It also wanted to be sure that the tamper-evident bands on products that required these bands were not broken. The company decided to install a state-of-the-art vision system that could inspect a variety of imperfections not tolerated on high-speed lines and filling equipment. This includes the shoulder strength of the bottles, which must withstand significant head pressure and torque in the capping and filling stages of operation. Any defect that could compromise the integrity of this area is an inspection attribute of the vision system.
