A study about effectiveness of the health promoting schools network in Portugal

The European Network of Health Promoting Schools (ENHPS) is a joint project of the European Comission (EC), the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the Council of Europe (CE). This network includes more than 40 countries and has expanded remarkably since the Thessaloniki Conference, in Greece, in May 1997, where it was declared that "Every child and young person in Europe has the right, and should have the opportunity, to be educated in a health promoting school." At the opening of this Conference it was recognised that "The Health Promoting Schools" project will not just happen. On the contrary it calls for the combined effect of wisdom and experience of many professions. It requires the exercise of judgement, flair and a sense of values in the move towards the creation of a healthy environment for future generations" (European Conference on Health Promoting Schools, 1997).
