From rhetoric to reality

This issue of the journal follows the highly successful 18th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion and Health Education held in Melbourne. It celebrated considerable achievement worldwide, but at the same time avoided complacency by stimulating new ideas and pointing to new challenges and directions. Marilyn Wise's speech from the opening ceremony and Maurice Mittelmark's key note address from the last day are reprinted in this issue to provide a flavour of the conference and the major themes it addressed - valuing diversity and reshaping power to create conditions for equity and health.
