NTT DOCOMO deploys Alcatel-Lucent IP solutions for backhaul network upgrade

Alcatel-Lucent announced that NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest mobile operator with over 60 million customers, is deploying its IP technology to address fast increasing demand for mobile broadband Internet services including video and music streaming and multi-player gaming. For the deployment, NTT DOCOMO selected Alcatel-Lucent's 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) to enhance the speed and capacity of its backhaul network and help it address a marked increase in demand for mobile broadband service in Japan due to widespread use of devices such as smartphones and tablets.
