User awareness of security countermeasures and its impact on information systems misuse: A deterrent approach

摘要

An extended deterrence theory model is proposed to study the ill effects of intentional insider misuse of Information resources in organizations, it posits that user awareness of security counter-measures directly influences the perceived certainty and severity of organizational sanctions associated with ISM intentions. The study also shows that the perceived severity of sanctions is more effective in reducing ISM intentions than certainty of sanctions. The impact of sanction perceptions varies based on one's level of morality.
