AFTER A HIATUS OF 6 YEARS, the American Library Association's Midwinter (ALAMW) conference returned to Philadelphia, Jan. 24-27,2020. Those who attended the prior Philly ALAMW were grateful for the lack of blizzard conditions and foot-deep snow. Final registration numbers were 5,443 attendees and 2,656 exhibitors. That makes for a respectable total of 8,099, which compares with 9,211 in 2019 and 8,036 in 2018. However, with the exception of print book publishers, the exhibit hall had fewer exhibit booths, and visitors to the smaller booths were few and far between, particularly for those located toward the back of the hall. ALAMW is a mixture of discussion groups, committee meetings, and exhibits. Exhibitors who made the trek to Philly had a lot of new products and services to talk about.
