Geology of deepwater Gulf holds promise, challenge

Future E&P activities in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico are rife with opportunities and challenges, in both the US and Mexican portions, according to a new report from Westwood Global Energy. Both industry and government are hoping for numerous oil discoveries in Mexican waters of the southern Gulf of Mexico, but these hopes could be frustrated by the complex and variable geology which is quite different from the prolific US waters to the north, according to Vikesh Mistry, analyst, Global Exploration Research for Westwood.
