A pet food company which ignored "obvious and significant" risks to its workforce's health and safety has been fined ￡157,500, after one worker was crushed to death by a packaging machine.rnMarcus Snow was working in the packing department of Nat-urediet Pet Foods Ltd, Surrey, in February 2006, when a semiautomatic 'off load machine' used to transfer finished cartons of dog food onto a conveyor became jammed. Mr Snow crawled into the front entrance of the machine in an attempt to clear the jam but as he did so the machine's pneumatic pick-up unit descended and pinned him to a stack of trays. The pressure on his chest caused his death by asphyxiation.
