On-site incidents involving fork lift trucks are the cause of more major and over-three-day injuries to staff thanrnon-site incidents involving cars and vans combined. Last year, there were around 1,100 over-three-day injuries reported and over 450 major injuries. Of the eight fatalities reported involving fork lift trucks in 2007/08, the main causes of death were people being run over or crushed. In addition, each year hundreds of workers are seriously injured, in some cases fatally, by loads falling off vehicles.
