Falls prevention research

RESEARCHERS from the University of Central Lancashire have been awarded f3,250 from the RoSPA scholarship scheme to carry out a pioneering falls prevention research project. The two-year project, which will be undertaken by Nicola Isaacs, Dr Karen Whittaker, Dr Bev French and Dr Christina Lyons from the university's School of Health, aims to explore the factors (barriers and enablers) affecting whether or not older people choose to participate in falls prevention schemes. The research team will also explore beliefs and opinions as to what a fall actually is. Both health and social care professionals and older people who have previously attended a falls prevention education pilot programme - which ran within NHS East Lancashire Primary Care Trust - will be interviewed.
