UK Power Networks (Operations) Ltd, the company which supplies power to the East of England, London and the South East, has been fined ￡275,000 after an employee was killed by an explosion. Electrical engineer John Hig-gins was at the Bishops Hall Lane electrical substation in Chelms-ford in May 2008 when a device he was working on for manually adjusting voltage ratios (known as a transformer tap changer) exploded.
