The eighth edition of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine's Ethics guidance for occupational health practice is not a legal document but could be used as evidence at an employment tribunal of appropriate OH practice or as evidence that data protection requirements had been met 2. Revisions since the seventh edition include new duties under the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 3. The guidance is aimed at all OH professionals and includes 15 vignettes illustrating resolutions to difficult ethical situations 4. Practitioners will need to take particular note of its advice concerning consent and confidentiality, including when it may be ethical to breach consent, for example to protect the health and safety of others 4. The document includes a useful framework for managing complex ethical issues
