摘要

Conflicting opinions exist about optimal weight loss diets. nOne stance is that a low-fat diet will promote loss, while nothers hold that carbohydrate overconsumption (or even naddiction) is responsible and a low-carbohydrate diet nshould be followed. What is the real answer?nThe real answer is that there is no guaranteed, one-nsize-fits-all diet plan—the individual really needs nto find the diet that controls their hunger while nallowing them to consume fewer calories. Whatever diet nis chosen, it always comes down to energy balance. Car-nbohydrate overconsumption secondary to carbohydrate ncraving is a misleading term; it is that the foods selected n(e.g., white rice, white bread) do not produce satiety due nto the lack of volume and fiber. Any diet that does not nlead to restrained eating will not achieve weight loss. nThat said, 1 gram of fat contains 9 calories, while 1 gram nof carbohydrate contains only 4 calories, making it much neasier to consume too many calories eating a high-fat diet nrather than a high-carbohydrate diet.
