Planners aiming for more AP1000s at new PWR sites in inland China

China's National Development & Reform Commission, or NDRC, and other agencies have approved plans to set up between four and eight AP1000 PWRs at two new sites in the country's interior, according to officials from a potential investor in these projects.rnThe State Nuclear Power Technology Co., Snptc, is drafting a blueprint for building as many as 16 AP1000s beyond the four units now under con-rnstruction at two coastal sites, Sanmen and Haiyang, sources said this week. Snptc's blueprint is based on plans outlined by NDRC in 2005 to accelerate the pace of nuclear power plant construction in China. Snptc is in charge of establishing the AP1000 program in China on the basis of technology transfer agreements between it and Westinghouse Electric Co.
