Contracts Awarded to Create Yucca Mountain Waste Canisters

The U.S. Energy Department (DoE) has awarded contracts to Areva Federal Services and NAC International to design and license the canisters that will package spent nuclear fuel bound for the Yucca Mountain high-level waste repository.rnThe canisters, known as Transportation, Aging and Disposal (TAD) canisters, will be the primary means by which the nation's high-level nuclear waste is shipped from commercial nuclear reactors to the proposed repository about 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
