The head of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is defending his decision to end his agency's review of the U.S. Department of Energy's application for a license to build a nuclear waste repository at Nevada's Yucca Mountain.rn"In the absence of an express direction, the approach the NRC is following is consistent with the terms of the continuing resolution, the commission's fiscal-year 2011 budget request, the general principles of appropriations law, and past NRC practice," Chairman Gregory Jaczko wrote in a letter to Republican Reps. Joe Barton and Ralph Hall of Texas, Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin and Doc Hastings of Washington;all longtime supporters of building the desert repository 90 miles from Las Vegas.
