EnergySolutions To Begin Work in January To Remove Radioactive Fuel Rods

Utah-based EnergySolutions will begin work in January to remove the radioactive fuel rods from the closed Zion nuclear power plant on the shore of Lake Michigan. Four 10-man teams will work around the clock for a year to remove 1,500 tons of nuclear waste from pools of water which have stored some of the material for 40 years. The Zion, Ill., plant is owned by Chicago-based Exelon Corp., the parent of Commonwealth Edison (ComEd).
