The Bulgarian government has announced it has taken made the first steps towards creating the country's first nuclear waste disposal site. A press release said the government is providing, at no cost, two plots of land to state-owned enterprise Radioactive Wastes for the construction of the waste facility. The approximately 109 acres, previously owned by the Ministry of Agriculture, are located near the village of Harlets, close to the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, Bulgaria's only functioning power reactor.
