Officials with Guernsey's Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation report that radioactive waste dumped in the Hurd Deep off Alderney is monitored regularly and is not dangerous. Thousands of barrels of low-level radioactive waste were dumped into the trench in the 1950s and 1960s. French and German environmentalists have called for removal of the material following reports by German journalists.
