摘要

Experience with nuclear in the heat and steam market in the lower temperature range does exist. A further extension appears possible on a short term in the areas of desalination, district heating, and tertiary oil recovery. In the higher-temperature heat/steam range, a significant potential exists for using nuclear energy for hydrogen production and for the petro-chemical industries including the production of liquid fuels for the transportation sector. The Very High Temperature Reactors (VHTR) represents a highly promising, near-term option of a Gen-IV type nuclear reactor of the future. Broader deployment of nuclear heat sources is needed in both low and high-temperature heat/steam range. Currently, a significant potential for nuclear energy is given for seawater desalination and in the petro/chemical industries including the production of hydrogen and liquid fuels for the transportation sector. Practical nuclear process heat application would be possible based on exchange of experiences and further international collaboration.
