摘要

This June 13-17, the American Nuclear Society celebrated its 50th birthday, in Pittsburgh. Two weeks earlier, many towns in America made a more somber remembrance of something different. Let me take you to my town on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 9:30 a.m. Outside the American Legion building, folks are gathering for the parade. We're a small friendly community where everybody knows everybody and many are related, so the parade has a very local flavor. I try never to miss it. Waiting to join the parade are scouts of both genders in uniform. Civic leaders. Police and fire fighters. A long line of shiny fire trucks—yellow ones from the Cuddy neighborhood, white ones from Sturgeon, and red ones from Fairview and Oak Ridge. Nearby Castle Shannon has brought over their famous Green Hornet.
