NRC dockets license renewal application

On March 8, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced that it has docketed Energy Northwest's application for the renewal of the operating license for the Columbia generating station, an 1153-MWe boiling water reactor near Richland, Wash. The placement of the application on the docket means that sufficient information has been provided to allow the NRC to begin technical reviews, and while docketing is no guarantee of eventual approval, to date, every renewal application on which the agency has completed action has been approved.
