DOE transforming legacy site into industrial park

In July, the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management (EM) and its contractors noted progress made in decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) work at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP), a 5000-acre site within the DOE's Oak Ridge Reservation. A Cold War legacy site, the ETTP once hosted enormous gaseous diffusion plants for the production of enriched uranium. The DOE is transforming the site into a self-sustaining, privately owned industrial park by removing contaminated buildings and reusing clean ones. Portions of the site may also become part of a proposed national historical park commemorating the Manhattan Project.
