Since the first theoretical investigations in the early 1970s by Shafranov and Yurchenko and their successors (Sykes 1983 and Troyon 1984) which established the pressure limit in tokamaks, it has become clear that the decrease of the aspect ratio of the plasma ring increases the toroidal beta limit. Later, the original numerical equilibrium simulations (Peng and Strickler 1986) showed the positive role of strong toroidicity in the high beta configuration realization. Then the successful experiments on the START machine (UK) spherical tokamaks established a firm position in world fusion research.
