Turkey has reached agreement with an international consortium that is proposing to build the Sinop nuclear power plant on its Black Sea coast. The deal with MHI, AREVA, Itochu and GDF Suez outlines the framework for a feasibility study on the construction of four ATMEA1 PWRs at the site. Construction has officially started on unit 3 of the VC Summer AP1000 nuclear plant. The pour for the 6-foot (2m) concrete basemat was completed on 4 November and took 43.5 hours, South Carolina Electric & Gas Company said. The basemat pour for Summer 2, completed in March 2013, took 51.5 hours. Unit 1 of India's Kudankulam WER-1000 nuclear power station was synchronized to the electricity grid on 22 October, operator Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) announced. Reactor power will be raised 'in stages' from 160 MWe to 500 MWe, 750 MWe and 1000 MWe.
