摘要

A friendly robot called Oscar is teaching children how electricity is generated and challenging them to enter an engineering competition. The first children from six schools near Torness nuclear power station took part in the Schools' Engineering Challenge last month.rnDuring a visit from Oscar and engineers from the power station, the pupils took part in a session focussed on low-carbon and renewable energy. They were then given five weeks to build wind turbines, research how energy is produced and used, and give a presentation to their teachers. The schools will also visit Torness power station this month as part of the Challenge and will be given the opportunity to connect their designs to a small generator linked to light bulbs to measure the amount of power they produce.
