摘要

The development of comprehensive fuel cycle models has made it possible to analyse future nuclear energy scenarios to calculate what inputs they require (uranium, plutonium, etc.) and outputs they generate (e.g. waste, spent fuel and their characteristics). This can tell us whether a scenario is viable and what is required to run it. Many reactor systems may show advantages against particular criteria, but unless and until these advantages are turned into drivers by market conditions, deployment may remain elusive. Nuclear power systems are not 'good' or 'bad' - they make varying strategic and economic sense depending on the requirements of the energy market and external factors such as uranium supply and overseas technology developments. Robust and defensible analysis demands that all the advantages and disadvantages of a system are clearly and transparently considered together. GFA offers a means of achieving this.
