The NI YGN Legal and Commercial Seminar for 2015 took place in London in June. The event was sponsored and hosted by DWF LLR The seminar covered a range of interesting topics, including: SMR licensing and technologies; the carriage of nuclear materials by road, sea and rail; insurance in the nuclear sector; as well as a session on the role of the NDA and an overview of the importance of procurement law in the nuclear decommissioning supply chain. The excellent range of speakers came from organisations that included Burges Salmon, DWF, International Nuclear Services (INS), Nuclear Risk Insurers and Energy Process Developments. The presentations started with a joint session on 'SMR licensing and SMR molten salt technology' given by Chris White of DWF and Rory O'Sullivan of Energy Process Developments. They explained the SMR market and gave an overview of the molten salt reactor, an exciting new technology with many advantages over other existing technologies, including the ability to operate at atmospheric pressure and a burn rate of up to 90 per cent of fuel.
