In 2005 the ownership of Sellafield, in West Cumbria, transferred to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) along with other civil nuclear legacy sites in the UK. The purpose of the NDA is to deliver the decommissioning and clean-up of the nuclear legacy in a safe and cost-effective manner. Sellafield is the UK's largest and most complex nuclear site posing levels of uncertainty that are unique in the global nuclear sector. To safely meet these challenges and maximise value to the taxpayer, innovative technologies are required. Sellafield Ltd is the site licence company responsible for the safe delivery of decommissioning and waste management on the Sellafield site.
