Storing nuclear waste

In November 2018, the Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (Thorp) at Sellafield completed its final fuel shear. By the end of 2020, the Magnox Reprocessing Plant should have also finished its mission in reprocessing Magnox fuel. This marks the UK's switch from a closed loop fuel cycle where fuel is reprocessed, to an open fuel cycle where spent fuel is stored and subsequently disposed of.
