Two New Species of Cerastium (Caryophyllaceae) from the Equatorial Andes

Cerastium L. (Caryophyllaceae), predominantly a Holarctic genus also extending to temperate and montane regions of the Southern Hemisphere, is confined in the tropical Andes of South America to non-forest, high-altitude habitats. Two species of Cerastium from the subgenus Eucerastium (Boissier) Pax, C. cuatrecasasii Sklenar from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia and C. wilhelmianum Sklenar from northern and central Ecuador, are described and illustrated. Cerastium cacananense Moeschl is added to the list of the Peruvian species.
