摘要

I have noted a slight upsurge of manuscript submissions on the topic of leadership in the past year, and some of these no doubt will be evident in these pages before too long. But more than a few of these manuscripts will not survive rigorous peer review; some have gone down already. This is due less to any inherent weaknesses in the authors or culpability in the readers than it is to one simple fact: there is no working paradigm of nonprofit leadership. Certainly there is a leadership paradigm, and just as surely no intellectual, scholarly, or scientific paradigm is ever likely to achieve complete allegiance, at least in the social sciences. But even taking all of the necessary nuances and qualifications into account, reality bites, as they say. There currently does not appear to be any broad consensus regarding which topics, research questions, theoretical perspectives, measures, research methods, and teaching methods are important in the study of nonprofit leadership.
