Jon Meacham writes well and raises thought-provoking points. But-and I speak here as a fiscal conservative-I think he is wrong. Any pundit who pretends the president's only problem is that he doesn't communicate his feelings well enough not only kids himself but does the public a disservice. The president views businesspeople as makers of "excess profits" and has an aversion to tax cuts that might stimulate growth, preferring instead highly targeted and narrow cuts (as in the stimulus bill) that do not encourage investment in business. It's not about how he communicates. It's about how he thinks and how he decides.
