You've won a number of major prizes for your work; but, perhaps most notably, you won the 2001 Orange Prize for Fiction, which is an international award for the best full-length novel, written in English, by a woman. Has this changed anything about the way you think about your work, or about how you work?rnIt was an enormous boost to win the Orange Prize for The Idea of Perfection - partly because I was up against such good books by the other contenders. I was amazed and thrilled to win. It was especially important because the judges weren't Australian - that meant that the book transcended local interest and appealed in a more universal way.
