The Poet's Receptive Stance as an Invention Heuristic

This study converges on the processes of creative writers, more specifically, the invention processes of several interviewed poets. These poets collectively describe an invention heuristic I name the 'receptive stance' - receptivity as differentiated from the deliberate deployment of craft for the sake of conscious, plotted invention. After establishing a working understanding of invention, I review the existing literature and my methodological positioning before detailing two aspects of the receptive stance: Evoking New Associations and From Craft to Instinct.
