Making digital maps is far from easy. Underneath the surface, they are built from myriad sources, which can lead to errors.For their base maps, the likes of Google and Apple still heavily rely on traditional mapping organisations. For topographic information on many countries, Google Maps turned to Dutch mapping provider Tele Atlas, which in turn collates information from established bodies, such as the UK's Ordnance Survey.
