Brace for impact. The latest count of the moon's craters turned up 33 per cent more than predicted. Small meteors regularly hit the moon and Earth. On Earth, they usually burn up in the atmosphere, or land in uninhabited areas. But on the moon they constantly form craters and impact basins, churning up its surface. Only recently have we begun to distinguish new craters amid the moon's already-battered surface.
