Smart toys are with us: dolls that respond to kids' questions and movements; an imitation smartwatch that chats with other devices over Bluetooth; puzzles that talk to the puzzler. A smart toy might even live in a smart home - like the Barbie Hello Dreamhouse, a connected house for the iconic doll. These toys have the potential to enhance play, but also the capacity to spy. Privacy activists object to them on the grounds that children cannot grasp the implications of their data being gathered. Psychologists suggest that the toys don't offer any clear benefits over their "dumb" counterparts.
