As we get older we get wiser, or so they say. Most other functions go downhill though, particularly memory - unless you happen to be a "superager", one of a rare group who retain a good memory. To qualify as a superager, someone must be over the age of 80 but perform as well as 55-year-olds in memory tests. When asked to recall a list of 15 words 15 minutes after hearing them, the average 80-year-old remembers about five, while superagers can manage around nine.
