Consultant Aecom and Wilkinson Eyre Architects have won the RIBA-organised competition to design a new landmark swimming pool in Worthing. The new building will formrnpart of Worthing Borough Council's masterplan for the town's seafront, and will include an eight lane, 25m long pool, a combined learner/diving pool, indoor leisure pools, with rapids, flumes, and outdoor waters, a health and fitness centre, cafe, creche and flexible space for other activities. The building is aiming for a high sustainability rating, incor-rnporating advanced technologies for construction, energy management and recycling.rnMeasures include optimising the facade design to maximise use of natural daylight and passive thermal benefit in winter, and incorporating photovoltaic arrays to generate electricity. Ground source heat pumps will warm the building.
