I was interested to receive an invitation to an ICE event on the Isle of Wight in November to hear what some of the "UK's leading experts" say we need to do about climate change. However, I was dismayed to read the programme. Predictably, it starts by sharing how much action that climate science predicts is necessary and the need to adapt. But it then jumps to the far-off possibilities of geo-engineering. The irony is that without action now, including by engineers, the flood defences will flood. The melting of Greenland, glaciers and Antarctica will cause sea levels to rise by 20m.
