Northern transport bosses have warned that uncertainty about the much-anticipated Integrated Rail Plan means that development of the region's £39bn flagship Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) project risks being delayed. Documents released ahead of Transport for the North's (TfN's) February board meeting documents say that the scheme's progress depends on the Department for Transport publishing its Integrated Rail Plan. It warns that uncertainty about the timing and details of the plan "means there is a risk that the [NPR] programme may suffer from delays and/or the need to reconsider the required activity". The Integrated Rail Plan will set out a pathway for rail projects across the UK including Northern Powerhouse Rail, High Speed 2 phase 2b and the Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade. It is due for publication early in 2021.
