We are saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Edward M. MacCutcheon on May 17, 2007. A naval architect and ocean engineer, Mr. MacCutcheon was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1915. He graduated in 1937 from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture, New York City, and earned a Masters in Engineering Administration from the George Washington University in 1958. After several years of various naval architectural duties, Mr. MacCutcheon was involved with the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Safety. He coordinated casualties research, reme dies and redesign for ships suffering hull fractures during World War II. For nine years, he continued research on ship structure and naval systems development at the David Taylor Model Basin, the Bureau of Ships and the Office of Naval Research.
