The European Commission has unveiled a five-year strategy to tackle the growing problem of antibiotic resistance, urging greater prudence in the use of antimicrobials in human and veterinary medicine. The action plan, which recommends strengthening surveillance systems to better track and report cases of resistance, was published on 17 November.
