Latency and ongoing replication have both been proposed to explain the drug-insensitive human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reservoir maintained during antiretroviral therapy. Here we explore a novel mechanism for ongoing HIV replication in the face of antiretroviral drugs. We propose a model whereby multiple infections per cell lead to reduced sensitivity to drugs without requiring drug-resistant mutations, and experimentally validate the model using multiple infections per cell by cell-free HIV in the presence of the drug tenofovir.%抗逆转录病毒疗法能抑制、但不能根除HIV感染。由于对治疗有抵抗力的病毒库的持久存在,低水平的病毒血症会持续一生。人们认为存在各种不同类型的病毒库。David Batmore及其同事将HIV感染和药物治疗的数学模拟及细胞培养模型结合起来提出,如果细胞通过细胞到细胞传播已经被感染时,在有药物存在的情况下也会发生持续的HIV复制。
