In Anandapuram Mandal of Visakhapatnam district, flowers like Crossandra, Jasminium, Polyanthus, Tagetus, Chrysanthemum, Artemisia and rose are cultivated. Wilt, a dreaded disease, causes great loss to farmers income. The indiscriminately used fungicides are copper oxychloride, mancozeb and carbendazim. A study conducted revealed that mancozeb, a broad spectrum contact fungicide, could combat all fungal species and hence it is not at risk from resistance development point of view. Fusarium, Curvularia, Alternaria and Helminthosporium could resist 3g/L of copper oxychloride. Fusarium, Alternaria, Rhizopus, Curvularia, Trichoderma and Penicillium are resistant to 3 g/L of carbendazim, hence it is considered to be at risk from resistance development, but to which resistance has not yet been recorded. The best way to avoid fungal resistance is by alternating the use of different classes of fungicides and by avoiding constant use of fungicides known to trigger development of resistant fungi.
